Plastic Surgery After Weight Loss with GLP-1

Proud of your weight loss, but you do not quite recognize your body?

More and more women are successfully losing weight with GLP-1 medication such as Ozempic®, Wegovy®, or Mounjaro®. That is a tremendous achievement. You feel fitter, healthier, and more energetic. Even so, your body may not quite match how you feel.

After a larger weight loss, the breasts often lose volume and firmness. The skin can become less elastic, causing the breasts to sag and excess skin to form on the abdomen. These are common consequences of weight loss and have nothing to do with exercising too little or living the wrong way.

In my practice I regularly speak with women who say:

“I am incredibly happy that I lost the weight, but I do not quite feel at home in my new body yet.”

That feeling is entirely understandable. Cosmetic surgery can help bring the contours of your body back into balance, so that your appearance matches the healthy choice you made.

Why do the breasts and abdomen change after weight loss?

GLP-1 medication causes you to lose weight, including fatty tissue. Because the breasts consist largely of fatty tissue, their volume often decreases. This can make the breasts flatter or cause them to sag.

The skin of the abdomen also needs time to adapt. In many women the skin does not fully contract, certainly not after a larger weight loss or when the skin has been stretched before, for example by pregnancies.

The result can be:

  • loss of breast volume;
  • sagging breasts;
  • a changed shape of existing breast implants;
  • excess skin on the abdomen;
  • a less firm body contour.

Which treatments are possible?

Breast lift

In a breast lift, the breast is reshaped and the nipple placed higher. This gives the breasts a natural shape again. When extra volume is desired, a breast lift can be combined with a breast augmentation.

Breast reduction

Are the breasts still relatively large despite the weight loss, or do they cause physical symptoms? Then a breast reduction combined with a breast lift can provide a better shape as well as more comfort.

Replacing breast implants

Do you already have breast implants? Then weight loss can make them fit your new body shape less well. In that case, replacing the implants, possibly combined with a breast lift, can provide a natural and balanced result.

Tummy tuck

In a tummy tuck, excess skin and fat are removed. When the abdominal muscles have separated, they can be repaired during the same operation. This creates a firmer and smoother abdominal contour.

When is the right moment for surgery?

For an optimal and lasting result, I advise considering a cosmetic procedure only once your weight has been stable for several months. Your body then has the time to adapt to the weight loss, and the result of the surgery is better preserved.

During a personal consultation we discuss your health, your wishes, and the options that best suit your body in detail.

My vision

Weight loss is an impressive achievement to be proud of. Cosmetic surgery is not a goal in itself, but for many women it can be the last step toward feeling completely comfortable in their body again.

My starting point is always a natural result that suits your build, with safety, quality, and personal attention at the center.

Frequently asked questions

How long does my weight need to be stable?

Preferably your weight has been stable for at least three to six months before surgery takes place. This contributes to a predictable and durable result.

Is a breast lift possible without implants?

Yes. Many women who have lost weight specifically choose a breast lift without implants. The breast then gets a better shape using your own breast tissue. When more volume is desired, implants or another technique can be discussed.

Can a breast lift be combined with a tummy tuck?

In many cases that is possible. During the consultation we assess whether this is medically responsible and which treatment best suits your situation.
