Tummy Tuck

After a pregnancy, weight loss or with age the skin of your abdomen can slacken. Sometimes the abdominal muscles have also drifted apart, which makes your abdomen keep protruding despite exercise and a healthy weight.

With a tummy tuck Laura can remove excess skin and restore the shape and firmness of the abdomen.

Mini or full tummy tuck?

If the excess skin sits mainly below the navel, a mini tummy tuck can sometimes be enough.

If the skin above the navel has slackened as well, or if the abdominal muscles have drifted apart, a full tummy tuck is usually needed. In that procedure Laura removes excess skin, can restore the distance between the abdominal muscles where necessary, and the navel is sutured into place again.

During the consultation Laura looks not only at the amount of skin, but also at fat distribution, muscle wall and your body proportions. Sometimes a combination with liposculpture gives a better and more natural result.

Scars and recovery

A full tummy tuck leaves a scar low across the lower abdomen and around the navel. Laura tries to place the horizontal scar so that it falls under underwear or a bikini as much as possible.

A tummy tuck is a larger operation and you stay in the clinic for one night after the procedure. For the first two weeks you have to allow for rest and limited exertion. After about six weeks you can gradually resume exercising and heavier activities.

Swelling and scars need more time. Your abdomen keeps developing over the months that follow and the final result is only assessed after about a year.
