Breast Implant Removal

There can be different reasons to have breast implants removed. Perhaps your breasts and your body have changed over the years, perhaps implants no longer match what you find beautiful, or perhaps you have symptoms that make you consider having them removed.

Whatever the reason: for Laura it matters not only to look at removing the implants, but above all at how your breasts can stay as beautiful and natural as possible afterwards.

What do your breasts look like without implants?

During the consultation Laura looks at how much breast tissue of your own you have, the quality of your skin and the shape of your breasts. With a thorough physical examination of your breasts she can give you an impression of roughly how much volume you will retain once the implants have been removed.

Sometimes removal alone is enough. If more excess skin or laxity has developed, removal can be combined with a breast lift and, if desired, lipofilling with your own fat.

Whether or not to remove the capsule

Around every breast implant the body forms a thin layer of capsule. On social media it is regularly advised to always remove this capsule completely when implants are taken out.

There is no scientific basis for that. Removing capsule that is attached to the rib cage completely can moreover cause additional risks and damage. Laura therefore removes the capsule only when there is a medical reason to do so, for example when it is thickened or hardened.

Is removal covered?

In certain medical situations, removing breast implants can be covered by your health insurer under the Dutch healthcare system, for example in the case of a demonstrated rupture, severe capsular contracture, or when an internist has established a possible relationship with physical symptoms.

An additional cosmetic treatment, such as a breast lift or lipofilling, is generally not covered.
